ROAR Charity Cocktail of Fashion & Fundraising!

I was so excited to be invited as a special guest to the ROAR Charity Cocktail Of Fashion & Fundraising Event at the Hilton Marble Bar. It was a great evening made even more memorable because it raised awareness to the plight of orphans and disadvantaged children in Rwanda. ROAR is the brainchild of Lily Nyamwasa who together with her Vice President Faith Agugu put on a fantastic event every year. There was a spectacular fashion show featuring Raw Fashion designers: Opa DesignsMajiqueBronx & BancoAchea-MpongGemeli PowerJewels & GraceGypseaWild Pony and Peeptoe Shoes. The night also included live music, dance performances and auctions to raise money for this great cause.

A bit about ROAR:

ROAR stands for Rwandan Orphans Assistance Response Incorporated. It is a non profit organisation based in Sydney Australia, whose mission is to improve educational outcomes of Rwandan orphans and disadvantaged children. They strongly believe that education is the key to the success of Rwanda’s future, the children of Rwanda. Their aim is to raise funds to assist disadvantaged children and orphans in rural areas of Rwanda in the area of education and health.
ROAR works closely with primary schools in Rwanda to identify those children in need. ROAR is committed to raising funds to help pay school related expenses such as uniforms, shoes and school supplies, on behalf of the orphans and disadvantaged children in Rwanda. To date they have assisted more than 1000 orphans and disadvantaged children at Linganwe School. This year they are extending our projects to include providing access to clean water to the children of Linganwe School, by building a well in the school, that the entire village to share.

A total of $17,120 was raised on the night which will be used to fund 2 projects at Linganwe school: Implementation of the sanitation program and the children farming project.
