Cotton On Kids Australia – an inside scoop

I attended the opening of the new Cotton On Kids store in Randwick recently and I must say I was very impressed by their range and the improvements to the quality of their products; so much so that I asked the Girlswear buyer for an interview.  Georgia gives us the inside scoop on what’s trending in kids clothing, the best buys and what’s in store for Cotton On Kids Australia!

As the buyer what do you look for when sourcing children’s clothing?
At Cotton On buyers and forecasters from all labels work together on product and trend. We discuss upcoming styles and what we can work within all the brands; this consistently delivers on trend, fun fashion.  We’re a big fashion family. We also have an incredible amount of passionate people in the Cotton On Kids team, with a myriad of creative and industry experience in kidswear and fashion as a whole. We source from family favourites and are lucky enough to travel extensively around the globe to deliver the cutest cutting edge  trends. From markets in India, to flea markets in Paris. We search under every nook and cranny to offer the best fash around…….And then there’s our favourite blogs!  They are the fastest most active and live form of communication.  They’re invaluable!

What improvements have been made to the quality of the items?
We are always on the lookout for ways to improve and evolve all product instore. It’s a major focus for the team at Cotton On Kids Australia.  Together the product developers and buyers work tirelessly to give the most fun, lively, gorgeous and well wearing product to our fav kids on town!

What are the best selling items of the new range?
We are famous for our appliqué tees.   Sparkle, glitter, sequins! A little bit of glamour on our easy wear flutter sleeve shape. Perfect for any event! Take a dip in our highly anticipated splashtastic swimwear.  Featuring 100% UV protective rash vests. Cute as can be ruffle and triangle bikins. And not to forget our classic one pieces. All available in custom designed yardage and placement prints. Then we have our extensive range of magical yardage print and pop colour  shorts, perfect for the beach and cruising down to the milk-bar for your favourite summer time treat. Don’t forget our Christmas princesses. We are so excited about the new Dress Ups collection.  We have named it “Princess of parties and dreams” The offering consists of soft blush tones, energetic pop pinks, whimsical dip dyes and embellishments.  It’s every girls dream.

What are the top trends for kids for Spring/Summer 2013?
On a trend level we are all about “Urban Warrior” and “Tropicooler”; Featuring Hawaiian inspired yardages, Aztec wovens prints, romantic vintage florals and market inspired embroideries and embellishments across dresses, pants, shorts, tees, knits and swim. For product our focus is on, relaxed yardage print pull on pants.  Resort winning combinations like the Azealia Jumpsuit and Kelis short with your favourite appliqué or print tee. Don’t forget the accessories girls! Finish off the outfit with your favourite printed or sparkle primo ballet flat, embellished sandals, pop colour beads, cute as can be fruit purses and sun smart sunglasses.

What does the future hold for Cotton On Kids?
As a global brand, the world is our oyster. We’re excited and inspired by all the new areas we are opening.  This year holds big growth and expansion on a retail front! We’re also excited about our creative and technical product growth.  We are driving for progression in all product, from quality of fabrics, printing techniques and well wearing fabrics.  We also have an incredible range of knitwear hitting the stores and more than competitive price points and quality.  We love our knits!
