I have always been obsessed with Tutu du Monde. The designs are exquisite and what woman hasn’t wanted to be a ballerina at some point in their life. Case in point I recently bought an adult tutu!
One of the things I love about having a girl is dress ups and I couldn’t wait to get Princess Stylista into a Tutu du Monde creation.
She received the Talking Roses Tutu Dress from the Down the Rabbit Hole collection recently. I nearly cried when I put it on her, it’s so beautiful. Something tells me it’s the first of many!
Who designs these breathtaking dresses? Where does she draw her inspiration? Meet founder Andrea Rembeck, the woman behind the brand..

1. Tell us about the Tutu du Monde brand
Tutu du Monde draws inspiration from the delicate and the divine, the vintage and the antique with a contemporary spin.
Dusty pastels, silk ribbons, sparkly sequins, crystal beads and wisps of feathers, applied by hand to the softest cotton and the finest tulle and silk organza.
Each garment is designed to be treasured for decades to come, creating powerful memories to pass on through generations.
2. What made you decide to launch Tutu du Monde?
Upon the birth of my daughter in 2005, I took some time out from designing Women’s Wear to enjoy being a mother, not realising that this very act would blossom into the birth of a brand too.
I discovered that little girls loved to lose themselves in make-believe worlds and, more than anything, cherished beautiful tutus.
When my daughter asked me for one, I embarked on a quest to find one that was not mass-produced, hot pink and polyester.
I couldn’t and decided there was a gap in the market for tutus made from natural materials, cottons and silks. That’s how Tutu du Monde was born in 2009.
3. Where did you draw your inspiration for the new range?
We are currently working on Spring/Summer 17 and the inspiration is Palm Springs, the sunsets, the glamour and a slight retro feel. We’re planning to go there to shoot our campaign as well.
4. What advice would you give a mumpreneur starting out?
Not sure, I’m not a mumpreneur but an entrepreneur who happens to be a mother.
5. How do you find work/life balance?
Spending my mornings by the ocean, running and swimming. Yoga and meditation to clear my head.
6. What is your favourite part of owning your own business?
Having freedom and being able to travel.
7. What is your favourite shopping destination?
Paris, New York, London and Tokyo – hard to narrow down
8. Describe your personal style
Casual chic a la Isabel Marant, Balanciaga, Alexander Wang. Zimmerman and Chloe on the ‘girlier’ end.
9. Who is your style icon?
Vanessa Paradis, Lou Doillon, Julianne Moore, Caroline de Maigret
10. What are your favourite childrenswear brands?
Modern Queen kids, Chloe, Camilla
11. Any plans to launch an adult range?
My friends ask all the time but I can’t find the time so no.
12. What does the future hold?
Our focus is on the US market but we’re also making a push into Asia. So I guess lots of travel and more campaign shoots overseas. We have a few exciting collaborations in store too.
